Picture Opal Necklace

オパールの中でも”ピクチャーオパール”というオーストラリアの、とある村でしか採掘されないとても珍しい石があります。

鉄鉱石質の母岩のなかに入り込んだオパール石が、まるで絵を描いたように見えるためにその名がついたようです。

光の通り方によって色と輝きが変化して、まるでステンドグラスのようです。

(ピクチャーオパールは洋灯舎オパール館さんで購入しました。洋灯舎さんではピクチャーオパールの他に、ブラックオパールやクリスタルオパールも扱いがあります。)

このネックレスは母へのお誕生日プレゼント。

石に十分な存在感があるので、デザインはシンプルに。

Picture opal is a very rare kind of opal that can be found only in specific region in Australia.

It seems just as if it is painted in a frame, probably that is why it is called 'picture opal'.  

This happens because the opal is intimately diffused between the pores of the iron ore host rock.

You can see the play of colors by passing the light through the stone.

(I bought this opal at Yoto-sha, they also have black opals and crystal opals.)

This necklace is for my mother's birthday.

The design is not too decorative since the gem itself has enough volume.

"Picture opal ('ópalo de pintura' sería en español, no pude encontrar la palabra)" es un tipo de ópalo que no es muy común, solo se puede encontrar en un región de Australia.

Se parecen como si estuviera pintado, me imagino que su nombre viene dado por eso.

Los colores aparecen así porque los ópalos están difuminados íntimamente entre los poros de hierro de la piedra materna.

Se puede ver los juegos de los colores por el efecto de la luz atravesando la piedra.

(Yo la compré este ópalo en Yoto-sha, ellos tienen ópalos negros y blancas.)

He hecho este collar para el cumpleaños de mi madre.

El diseño no es muy decorativo cuando la piedra lleva suficiente impacto en si.
